Luca Arnaboldi, the Managing Partner of Carnelutti Studio Legale Associato, has been with the firm since the beginning of his career. His practice focuses on complex M&A and finance transactions, including within the real estate and media sectors. Nicolas Burgener is Group Head of the legal function at Audemars Piguet Group, a fine watch-making manufacturer and retailer. He manages and supervises the Group Legal Affairs Department (made of 10 employees) and he is a Member of the Group Executive Committee. Carlo has been appointed managing partner of Deloitte Legal as of June 1, 2018. Before taking on the leadership of Deloitte Legal, Carlo gained many experiences both in the professional and managerial fields, developing an in-depth knowledge of the dynamics of management of corporate offices and relations with authorities, legal functions, and internal corporate compliance. A lawyer specialized in corporate, M&A and equity capital markets, Carlo worked for over 13 years at prestigious national and international practices, providing his assistance in numerous and significant extraordinary transactions until 2012, the year in which he left the profession to join Banca Popolare di Milano (now Banco BPM) where he was appointed General Counsel and Chairman of WeBankS.p.A. and Board Member of Banca AkrosS.p.A. and Banca Popolare di MantovaS.p.A. Carlo has contributed to the restructuring and relaunch of the banking group, taking care of corporate governance, capital strengthening operations, relations with the authorities and, finally, relations with the European Central Bank and asset quality review activities. At the end of 2014, he was appointed partner and general counsel for Investindustrial, where he followed the fund’s operations and sat on the board of directors of the companies in the portfolio. In 2018 he joined Deloitte Legal as a partner of the firm.

Luis F. Lozano Olivares is responsible for Legal (as General Counsel for Mexico Operations), Government and Industry Affairs, Trade, Compliance and Corporate Communications for Mexican Toyota operations. He participated as the representative of Toyota with government and Mexican private sector during the negotiations of USMCA. He joined Toyota Motor Sales de México, S. de R.L. de C.V. in 2005 where he has worked since as responsible of the Legal Department. Prior to this, in 2001 he practiced law in Mexico City with Baker & McKenzie as an associate of the firm. He also obtained a master ‘s degree in Business Administration from the prestigious IE Business School. His expertise includes among others, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, project finance matters, contracts, foreign investment and as General Counsel he has familiarized with other relevant legal matters such as labor, tax, environmental concerns, international trade and investment, transfer of technology and industrial property, Product Liability and Consumer Protection. Data Privacy Officer (DPO) Europe, Coca-Cola

Mrs. Mori is Data Privacy Officer (DPO) Europe at Coca-Cola. Prior to her nomination as DPO in May 2018, she was GC Europe at Coca-Cola. She also has been appointed President of Valore D, the first association of companies formed in Italy to support women’s leadership in the corporate world. Sandra Mori attended the University of Pisa where she obtained her law degree in 1989.  She then completed her education at the Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut, attending a one-year master program in international law. For 10 years, she worked in private practice in several law firms in both Italy and the US, working in the sector of M&A and intellectual property, with particular regard to the IT sector.  In 1999, she joined Microsoft Corp. as Director of Legal Affairs in Southern Europe.  In this position, she was responsible, among other things, of all antipiracy activities.  In 2001, she joined The Coca-Cola Company as Region Counsel for Italy and then as Division Counsel for the Italy and Alpine Division.  Thereafter, she held positions of increasing responsibility within the legal corporate function of The Coca-Cola Company, including that of M&A counsel for Europe, Eurasia, and the Middle East and senior operations counsel for the EU Group.

Secretary-General Milan Chamber of Arbitration, President IFCAI & Director ISPRAMED

Stefano Azzali is Secretary General of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration and President of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI). He also is the Director of the Institute for the Promotion of Arbitration and Conciliation in the Mediterranean (ISPRAMED). He is a visiting professor in Arbitration Law at Bocconi University – School of Law in Milan and Fellow at the Centre for Transnational Litigation and Commercial Law, New York University, School of Law. From 2001 to 2007 he chaired the Disciplinary Commission of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). He is currently a member of its Federal Court of Justice of the same Federation. He is also a member of the Formula One International Contract Recognition Board. He is the author of articles and publications on arbitration and he acted as arbitrator in several institutional proceedings (ICDR Rules, ICC Rules, DIS Rules, Swiss Chambers Rules etc).

Fabio Fagioli is Group General Counsel at Maire Tecnimont and has been holding his position since June 2013. He joined KT – Kinetics Technology SpA (formerly Tecnimont KT) in 2004 with the target to start up the Legal and Contract Department. Karen Jabbour Lahoud is a Senior Legal Counsel at the Central Bank of Lebanon (Banque du Liban) Legal Department. She has been a member of the Beirut Bar since 2004. Karen has practiced law in Lebanon and GCC (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman) for over 15 years and has developed a wide experience in Corporate Law, M&As, Real Estate, Taxation and Investment Structures and relevant cross-border contracts. Group Director Legal – Commercial, AkzoNobel

Alexandre Marcotte is Group Director of Legal for Commercial at AkzoNobel based in the Netherlands. His previous experience includes working at global companies, such as Saint-Gobain and Volkswagen. Before holding his current role, Alexandre Marcotte was director legal for AkzoNobel’s decorative paint branch where he managed globally renowned brands such as Dulux, Sikkens and Hammerite. Over his career Alexandre has had a number of highlights, perhaps his most inventive implementation so far is the ‘set-up and the roll-out of a competition law face-to-face program, tailor-made for different businesses and targets (employees working for sales, marketing, procurement and market intelligence departments)’. He is furthermore credited for his handling of the recall of a colossal number of products, meeting the high expectations of senior management while at the same time retaining their position on the market. In this situation he played a key role in identifying risks and reviewing agreements with a creative mind-set in order to avoid damage pay-outs, all managed in a multi-jurisdictional environment. Alexandre is similarly commended on his redefinition of legal responsibilities amongst his legal team at AkzoNobel in order to adhere to the global nature of company. In conjunction, he has also introduced increased communication with stakeholders and implemented a legal operations department to put technologies and development at the core of AkzoNobel’s legal department. Elisabeth Vanas-Metzler is Deputy Secretary General of VIAC since January 2018. She joined the VIAC Secretariat in October 2017. Elisabeth Vanas-Metzler studied law at Vienna University (Mag. iur. 2003, Dr. iur. 2008), Geneva University (2002) and Harvard Law School (LL.M. 2007). She served as the Research Assistant at the Department for Business and Commercial Law at the Law Faculty of Vienna University. Patricia Miranda has more than 20 years of legal experience advising companies both as an in-house counsel and an external lawyer in Spain and abroad, especially in the US, Australia, the UK, and in Italy.  Since 2016 she works as Head of the Corporate and Financing Legal Department at one of the most important and profitable concessions companies in the world, with more than 25 highway concessions and projects in the US, Slovakia, Spain, Canada and Australia. Her current focus is the handling of extraterritorial discovery in disputes and the challenges for organizations in the era of big data, abuse of writing and “evidence keeping”. She started her career in 1997 at the in-house department of the first mobile operator alternative to the incumbent in the Spanish market, being directly involved in the competition and regulatory disputes related to the liberalization of the Spanish mobile telecommunications market. She then worked 5 years at the Madrid and Brussels office of a leading US firm where, among other projects,  she handled the first ever Uncitral arbitration requesting the rebalancing of the LG gas procurement prices of contracts signed before the liberalization of the EU energy sector, with a positive result for the client of more than 1500 M€. She then served 10 years as director of international subsidiaries of a big Spanish IT multinational, where she managed acquisitions, entry into the Italian market and other corporate projects at a global level.

Brexit Director, DLA Piper

Paul leads DLA Piper’s Brexit advisory practice, counselling clients on the implications of Brexit and how best to navigate same. He is a former UK barrister and leading EU lawyer with first-hand experience of working both in Brussels and Westminster. His professional background and experience distinguish him an authority on the political, policy and legal implications of Brexit for commercial and public sector businesses. With insider knowledge of the political and administrative processes of Brexit negotiations and the implications for global trade, Paul has specialist understanding of how each piece of the jigsaw of EU policy and legislation fit together, and how it impacts businesses across the UK, the EU and globally.  Prior to joining DLA Piper in 2017, Paul worked in both Westminster and Brussels, most latterly as the EU Legal Adviser to the House of Lords from 2014-2017.  During 2009-2014, he was Counsel for European Legislation in the House of Commons and headed the team providing EU legal advice to the House and its select committees. In his role as permanent official in the European Commission in Brussels during that time, he advised on trade, foreign policy and international human rights in the Directorate-General for External Relations. Upon entering law in 1992, Paul initially practised criminal law before converting to environmental, human rights and public law. Interestingly, Paul was the first UK lawyer to work in the war crimes trials in Rwanda in 1998. During his career, he’s also worked in Bosnia for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Melanie has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry gained both in-house and in private practice. Andrea Davide Arnaldi, Founding Partner Lexant Studio Legale

Andrea Arnaldi is a founding partner and owner of Lexant Studio Legale, which focuses is in the areas of civil law, contract management, corporate crisis management, sport management and credit recovery. Since 2018 he has been an examiner at Intertek and contributed to the publication of the first UNI Practice for the certification of the credit manager role and the Credit Management process. Currently, he is part of the technical work table of the UNI Practice commissioned by ANDAF, aiming to map the CFO’s and Treasurer’s role and services. In the course of his professional life as a lawyer and entrepreneur, Mr. Arnaldi has gained significant experience in Commercial and Bankruptcy Law, providing advisory and strategic consulting to large multinational companies, but also small and medium-sized enterprises. Mr. Arnaldi’s expertise focuses in particular on advisory and assistance to companies with compliance matters and internationalization processes, advising Italian and European companies in delocalization processes as well as in the breakthrough of the Chinese market. In addition to law practice, Mr. Arnaldi trains and teaches issues related to Risk & Credit Management on behalf of the main business associations, such as the Italian Credit Manager Association (ACMI), the National Association of Administrative and Financial Directors (ANDAF) and the Italian Association of Corporate Treasurers (AITI), for which he is also the legal advisor. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of Academy ASK and editor of the series “I Saggi di Academy ASK”. He is a founding partner of Ask Advisory Srl, a company specialized in consulting, training and certification of business processes.

General Counsel, The New Yorker

Fabio Bertoni is General Counsel of The New Yorker magazine, where he is responsible for reviewing all articles, website posts, videos, and other content published by The New Yorker before their publication, as well as supervising legal issues surrounding The New Yorker Festival and other events. He began his legal career at the Hughes Hubbard & Reed firm. Prior to working at The New Yorker, Fabio was assistant general counsel at HarperCollins Publishers, where he conducted the pre-publication review of non-fiction books, and handled legal issues for the Children’s Division, negotiated author-publisher agreements, and advised on licensing copyright and trademark issues. Prior to that, Fabio was vice president and deputy general counsel for ALM Media, publisher of The American Lawyer, the New York Law Journal, and dozens of other newspapers and magazines across the United States. Fabio also serves as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School, where he teaches a seminar on Media Law Drafting. He graduated from Columbia Law School and from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.

Giuseppe Castagna has held important positions with the Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group, where he worked from 1981 to 2013, taking over the management of Banco di Napoli, Banca dei Territori Division and covering the position of General Manager of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group. From 2003 to 2013 he was Board Member in several banks and other financial intermediaries. After resignation from Intesa Sanpaolo Group in June 2013, Giuseppe Castagna was appointed as chairman of Italian Private Debt Initiative of Muzinich & Co. From 2014 to December 2016 he was General Manager and CEO at Banca Popolare di Milano and since January 2017 he has been CEO of the new Group Banco BPM.

Francesco Gianni is head of the Corporate/M&A department and one of the founding partners of Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners. He is considered one of the top experts in M&A in Italy, as well as in the rest of Europe. His focus is on corporate finance transactions, in particular, general public M&A and public to private M&A. He also has extensive experience in the arbitration field. He won the “Outstanding Contribution Award” at the Chambers Europe Awards. Due to his position at the pinnacle of the M&A field, he is frequently asked to represent some of the largest companies and investment banks in Europe. He was involved in almost all of the major privatization processes of Italian state-owned companies. After graduating in Law “maxima cum laude” from the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, he obtained an LL.M from the University of London, King’s College and an LL.M from the University of Michigan Law School. Early in his career, Francesco gained experience working in the U.S. for top law firms. He is a practicing member of the Italian Bar and is a member of the New York Bar. He delivers lectures at conferences all over the world and has been a contributor to many of the most prominent legal publications.
